Tiny Fingers to Tiny Voices

Sign language for parents and young children is a free course sponsored by the PEAL Center.  The class is taught by Kimberly S. Simon for parents, infants, toddlers, and young children, birth to kindergarten, who would like to use another avenue to improve their communication skills. Children must be accompanied by their parent/caregiver. Additional family members, teachers, or therapists are welcome to attend. This sign language class is intended for all children, regardless of their disability label. Dress comfortably since this is a "hands on" class!  Classes will be held in Pittsburgh, Freeport, Homestead, Zelienople and Aliquippa.  To register please go to www.pealcenter.org or call 412-281-4404 or toll free 866-950-1040.

The Pennsylvania Department of Education, Bureau of Special Education is pleased to announce the following training: Module 1, August 12, 2010; Module 2, August 16, 2010; Module 3, August 17, 2010 at PaTTAN Harrisburg from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.  LETRS is a staff development program that was developed by Louisa Moats and others to increase teachers' understanding of how students learn to read, write, and spell, and how to implement research supported instructional strategies to increase reading success.  The program is delivered through modules addressing components of reading instruction.
