Parent Leadership Institute

2011 Parent Leadership Institute - Applications due Sept. 23, 2011
Philadelphia Area

The Parent Leadership Institute will help parents develop an understanding of public healthcare and disability policies, and how those policies are manifested in each particular system or‘silo.’ You will be coached to develop skills to increase the impact of your voice to promote change beneficial to children and families across Pennsylvania.

Participants will focus on a specific area of interest to effect change. The entire seminar series will focus on applying the skills you are acquiring to your own situation.

Participants:

• Gain knowledge and understanding about healthcare policy and the effects of those policies
• Increase communication and advocacy skills
• Develop leadership skills
• Expand network of colleagues with similar focus
• Plan and collaborate on parent institute project

You are invited to apply if you:

• Have a child with a disability or special healthcare needs, and
• Have experience with leadership in community or advocacy organizations, and
• Can make a commitment to complete seven 5-hour daytime meetings in Philadelphia.

Your commitment:
• Participate in seven monthly sessions held at Vision for Equality in Philadelphia
• Participate in webinars and phone conferences scheduled between the monthly face to face meetings
• Complete homework assignments and readings
• Complete work on a final project: “Working for Change: Using the Power of Your Personal Story”
