Project for Parents Engaged in Advocating for Change in Education (PEACE)
2011 PEACE Project - Applications due Sept. 12, 2011
A 5 month project for emerging parent leaders from Cameron, Clearfield, Centre, Elk, Jefferson, Juniata, McKean and Mifflin Counties
  • Co-sponsored by the Mentor Parent Project
  • Supported by funds from the State Personnel Development Grant from the office of Special Education Programs, U.S. Department of Education
Each year, the PEAL Center seeks parents who are interested in becoming more informed and active in educational issues in Pennsylvania. The family voice is critical to ensuring that changes are responsive to the needs of children with disabilities and historically, it has been families that have lead reform efforts. Parents need to be informed decision makers so they need to understand current educational issues. The goal of this project is to provide parents with the information that they need to be informed and active partners in the educational reform efforts proposed at the state and local levels.

Throughout the course participants will explore the current reform efforts in Pennsylvania to place highly qualified professionals in Pennsylvania classrooms which includes exploring the roles of educational interpreters, paraprofessionals, school psychologists, school leaders and the credentials involved in becoming a teacher.
